Bible Study - LUKE: Resurrected Hope

  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced or witnessed his faithfulness since our last meeting?

  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you? How can we pray for you in those areas?

  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?

  4. Verse 21 reads, “But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.” These words give us a glimpse into the lost sense of hope that these men were feeling. What does this verse show us about their expectations? What does this verse show us about their perspective on the life and ministry of Jesus?

  5. Chris stated, “Few things are heavier than hope in the past tense.” Is anyone willing to share about a lost sense of hope in recent months or years? What happened? How do you view that situation on this side of it all? How did God sustain you through it?

  6. Verse 27 states, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he [Jesus] interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” Jesus explains that the story of the Bible is the story of Jesus. What do you make of this? What are some habits or disciplines that you can practice that will strengthen your Bible intake?

  7. One key takeaway that Chris mentioned was, “Hope is a who more than a when or a what.” How has your hope in Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection changed your perspective? How does the person of Jesus encourage you when expectations aren’t met, life gets hard, and hope seems lost?

  8. When you look back at our journey through the Gospel of Luke, what themes stand out to you? How has this Luke sermon series deepened your understanding of the Gospel message and your love for God? What might the Holy Spirit be calling you to do or change?
