Bible Study - For a Limited Time: Acts 27 28se

  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced his love and goodness this week?

  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?

  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?

  4. Read Acts 27:13-26 (the storm at sea).
    • What do you notice about Luke’s detailed account of the storm? How do the people aboard the ship respond in this moment (v.20)?
    • How does Paul respond in this moment? Where does Paul find his assurance and comfort in the midst of this terrible storm?
    • Chris noted: “A word from God doesn’t change every circumstance but it can change you and how you face the circumstance.” How have you experienced the power of God’s unchanging Word?

  5. Read Acts 28:1-10 (Paul on the island of Malta). Despite the challenges that he had just experienced, Paul serves the people on the island. This unexpected detour is not lost on Paul – he ends up sharing the Gospel. Which verses or phrases catch your attention in the text? What can we learn from this episode on Malta?

  6. Think about the VUCA acronym: volatility, unpredictability, complexity, and ambiguity. What promises and assurances do we have in Christ when things get hard? (ex: Matt 6:25-32; Matt 11:28-30; John 16:33; 2 Cor 1:3-4)

  7. As we continue to observe the Dallas County shelter-in-place orders, how might God be leading you to love and serve those around you? Is there somebody in your sphere that needs some encouragement or support?
