Bible Study - STRANGERS - Grow Up

Sermon-Based Bible Study - October 25, 2020
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Who would benefit or be interest in hearing about that from you?  Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. Read 1 Peter 1:13-2:3.  When’s the last time someone told you to “grow up?”  When’s the last time you told someone else to grow up?  What are some things you see people of faith doing that you would characterize as immature?  What are some things you see people of faith doing that you would characterize as grown up?
  5. Read 1 Peter 1:15-16.  As we grow up, or mature spiritually, we prioritize holiness.  Jesus is our model or example for a holy life.  What do you see in Jesus’s life that inspires or challenges you when it comes to living a holy life?  Looking back over the last few years where have seen progress when it comes living a holy life?
  6. Read 1 Peter 1:17.  What does this passage say God will judge?  What works are you currently doing that you’ve taken on because you know it brings glory to God?  Do you ever find yourself prioritizing the opinions of other people over God’s opinion when it comes to where you spend your time and energy?  Why?
  7. Read 1 Peter 1:22.  Do you ever struggle to feel loving toward others? Do you think of affection or love for other disciples of Jesus as something you either have or don’t have and there’s little you can do about it?  How could you grow in loving another deeply from the heart?
  8. Read 1 Peter 2:1.  Do you think it is fair to say that malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, slander – are normative in our culture for people who are not believers?  Which of the things listed in this passage have you had trouble getting rid of?  Why do you think that is?  What could you do that might help you get rid of it?
  9. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
