Bible Study - STRANGERS - The Big Reveal

Sermon-Based Bible Study – November 8, 2020
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Who would benefit or be interest in hearing about that from you?  Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. Read 1 Peter 2:11- 12.  Peter says that our sinful desires wage war against our souls.  What is your soul?  Have you experienced any damage to your soul when you’ve given in to sinful desires?
  5. Read 1 Peter 2:13-17.  When you were growing up, what kind of example did your parents provide when it came to submitting to authority?  Have you ever had trouble submitting to the authority of your parents, teachers, police, elected officials or any other authority figure?  Why?  What might submitting to authority have to do with the admonition of verse 13 to live a good life? What do you think it means for a person to use their freedom as a cover for evil?
  6. Read Acts 5:29.  In Peter’s letter he’s writing to people who did not have a lot of the civil rights that we enjoy.  Is it ever right to resist authority?  How do you decide when to submit and when to resist authority?
  7. Read 1 Peter 2:18-25.  Peter is speaking here to masters and slaves.  Does this have any relevance to us today?  How is the employer/employee relationship like the master/slave relationship?  How is it different?
  8. Peter talks about enduring unjust suffering like Jesus did.  Who is Peter talking to in this context?  How does remembering the suffering of Jesus help when it comes to submitting to authority?
  9. Do you find it difficult to submit to authority in your relationship with civil authorities, the work place or at home?  What do you do to make it easy for people under your authority to submit to you?
  10. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
