Bible Study - WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? - Decision Making and the Heart

Sermon-Based Bible Study – January 24, 2021
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. The Bible makes it clear that God does move in the hearts of people to prompt them, lead them convict them, or encourage them. The Bible also teaches us that the human heart is deceitful; our hearts can be misguided and selfishly motivated.
    1. Can you think of a time when God spoke to your heart and it led to something good, right, and true?
    2. Can you think of a time when you thought you understood what was going on in your heart, but things ended poorly?
  5. Proverbs 20:5 states, “The purpose in a man's heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.”
    1. What does this passage tell us about the depths of our hearts?
    2. How do we even begin to understand our hearts?
    3. What are some good questions you can ask to draw out this kind of understanding? What have you found to be helpful?
  6. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is good news for people like us—people who need a good heart check. How does the Gospel encourage you in your decision-making?
  7. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
