Bible Study - ANCIENT FUTURE

Sermon-Based Bible Study – September 5, 2021
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. Please remember to pray for Afghanistan (The Church, The Victims, Enemies, and Us) and for those suffering in Haiti and our efforts to help them through Christian Relief Fund.
  4. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  5. Read Acts 11:19-26.
    • What news reached the church in Jerusalem?  Why would that be “news”?
    • Why might the church in Jerusalem have sent Barnabas to Antioch?
    • What might Barnabas have witnessed in Antioch that made him attribute it to the “grace of God”? (compare Acts 10:44-47)
    • How might it change things for you if you began to look at how your adversity might serve to give you an opportunity to engage with someone about Jesus?
    • What have you seen the grace of God do recently?
  6. Read Acts 13:1.  When you think of “us” or “we” what are you most often using as the unifying value - is your identity more rooted in your nationality, race, ethnicity, class, denomination or Jesus? What is it about the Gospel that seemed to make it possible for the believers in Antioch to transcend nationality, race, ethnicity and class?
  7. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
