Bible Study - THE HOLY SPIRIT PPP - Gift Handling

Sermon-Based Bible Study – November 21, 2021
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for, or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. Read Romans 12:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 28.  Make a list of the gifts of the Spirit mentioned in these passages.  Which of these do you think you’ve seen in someone else or experienced yourself? Which haven’t you seen or experienced?
  5. Think about your life or the life of someone you know – is there a particular gift of the Spirit that would be a blessing to that situation? Then ask for the Spirit to move in that way.
  6. Read Galatians 5:22.  What is the difference between the fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit?
  7. Read 1 Corinthians 12:1.  Paul indicates that it is important to be well informed when it comes to the purpose and meaning of the gifts of the Spirit.  Do you think of yourself as well informed when it comes to the gifts of the Holy Spirit?  What questions in that regard were answered for you in this week’s sermon?  What questions remain?
  8. Read 1 Corinthians 14:1.  Would you say that when it comes to the gifts of the Spirit, you have actively pursued them, or have you just expected that if God wanted you to have one, it would simply be given to you?  Are there gifts of the Spirit that you have actively pursued?  What happened?  Are there gifts of the Spirit that you have been given without pursuing them?
  9. Read 1 Peter 4:8-10.  Chris said that the gifts of the Spirit are God’s grace flowing through us to help others.  How have you experienced God’s grace through the Spiritual gifts of others?  How have you extended God’s grace to others through your Spiritual gifts?
  10. Why is it so important to remember that the gifts say more about the goodness of God than they do our own goodness?
  11. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
