Bible Study - MATTHEW KING AND KINGDOM: Under Cover Operations

Sermon-Based Bible Study – May 22, 2022
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for? What is something you are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. We all deal with the powerful desire to impress others.  What is something you’ve done or acquired to try to impress others?
  5. Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18.  Have you ever tried to impress other people by the beauty, frequency or length of your prayers?  Have you ever tried to impress other people with the amount or frequency of your giving to charity?  Have you ever tried to impress other people by the length or frequency of your fasts?  Which is worse – praying, giving and fasting with mixed motives or not praying, giving or fasting at all?  Why?
  6. A common complaint about Christians is that they are hypocrites.  What do you think people who make that complaint mean by saying Christians are a bunch of hypocrites?  Why does Jesus call those who do their acts of righteousness to be seen by others hypocrites? Do you think Jesus is saying you should be perfect before you pray, give or fast?
  7. Why do you think people tend to practice too much secrecy about all the wrong things such as our sin or our struggles and not enough secrecy when we do the right things?
  8. Which audience have you been more mindful of recently, your Father or others?
  9. Is there something to be done by you this week in secrecy or anonymity that will honor God and bless someone else?
  10. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
