Bible Study -MAKING HISTORY - For Children

Sermon-Based Bible Study – December 11, 2022
  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for? What is something you are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
  4. Read Matthew 18:1-10. How would you summarize what Jesus is teaching in this passage about how children should be viewed/treated? Is there anything about your attitude or behavior toward children that is inconsistent with what Jesus is teaching?
  5. Read Matthew 19:13-14.  How would you summarize what Jesus is teaching in this passage about how children should be viewed/treated? Who are the disciples “rebuking” in this passage? How does this passage expand or refine what Jesus had said in Matthew 18:1-10?
  6. Compare and contrast the way children were viewed/treated when you were a child and how children are viewed treated today? What changes in the way children are viewed/treated under the law, by educational institutions or by religious institutions have you seen in your lifetime?
  7. What do you think it means to say that Jesus is calling those with children at home to “Christ-centered” parenting rather than “child-centered” parenting? What are some things parents typically do to encourage their children to orient their lives around Jesus? What are some things parents typically do that detract their children from orienting their lives around Jesus?
  8. Read Malachi 2:2-4.  What does this passage suggest the coming of Jesus will do for parents and children? Have your experienced this the blessing of this promise with your parents? With your children? How does this promise impact your desire or ability to “bring your children to Jesus” for a blessing? What are some ways to bring your adult children to Jesus?
  9. Read John 1:12.  Do you think of yourself as a child of God? Why? Do you truly consider that your core identity?
  10. What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word?  Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
